山田日後承認在開拍此片之前，已心諳渥美清的肺病步入末期，決定此章為最後一章，並安排由淺丘瑠璃子演的莉莉送寅次郎踏上人生的最後一程。分別15年後，兩人於如詩如畫的奄美大島重逢，感情依舊，鬥氣繼續，沒完沒了似的。正如山田所想，雖然系列必須完結，但始終不想為寅次郎的故事／人生劃上句號。結局如常開放，代表寅一直繼續他的旅程，日本人依然有夢。 公映後翌年，渥美清病逝，享年68歲，本片亦成為他的遺作。 Yamada knew before production began that Atsumi's health has deteriorated to such an extent that Tora-san to the Rescue would be the last film in the series. Atsumi Kiyosh passed away at the age of 68 in the year following the film's release, making this film his last.。落拓的周刊杂志记者榎木田辗转来到一间伫立在大山深处的咖啡店。据说许多到访过这里的客人都接二连三消失，嗅觉敏锐的榎木田认定咖啡店的背后藏有巨大的秘密，于是不远万里追踪而至。女主人真理子（关惠美饰）热情温柔，然而偶尔又会闪现出落寞阴郁的神情。榎木田假扮成客人，向店内的常客打听消息。常客中有体质变弱的健美选手松浦（角田信朗饰）、逃婚而来的飞鸟（市川由衣饰）、在头脑中规划着无差别杀人计划的卓（藤原薰饰）。随着调查的深入，榎木田发现真理子似乎四处延揽有自杀倾向的人。自杀者手持玫瑰作为接头暗号，经由女老板引领来到咖啡店的二楼。真理子会交给对方一个信封协助他们自杀，而交换条件却令人万万也想象不到……。
