"Daughters of the Dust" tells the story of a family of African-Americans who have lived for many years on a Southern offshore island, and of how they come together one day in 1902 to celebrate their ancestors before some of them leave for the North. The film is narrated by an unborn child, and ancestors already dead also seem to be as present as the living.。讲述的是富豪王大川在一个雨天遭遇车祸身亡，留下了一大笔钱财，可王大川膝下无儿无女，其前妻、老父亲都已不在人世，于是，在处理财产继承权的过程中，年轻貌美的女人冷静、摩登女人陆小曼、自称王大川妹妹的王丁粉墨登场。。
