To get a start in his new duty, he shops for a watchdog| and he buys an untrain...。根据同名话剧改编。广东省潮安县东桥乡支部书记、信用合作社方任周虹，晨虹农业社社长卢凤阳和晨虹农业社生产大队长黄瑞江，是老战友。在艰苦的岁月里，他们建立了战斗友谊。1953年他们一起复员回到家乡，投入了农业建设。三年来卢凤阳把农业社办得很好，被评为千斤丰产社，但他却被成绩冲昏了头脑。为了适应国家工业建设的需要，在农村展开了移民垦荒的运动，周虹和瑞江都报了名，但卢凤阳舍不得多年的战友离开自己，便想尽办法加以阻挠。瑞江的妻子周惠英听信卢凤阳的话，不让瑞江去垦荒。周惠英的哥哥周虹也正与信用社会计秋妹恋爱着，周母担心儿子的婚事，舍不得儿子离开。经过秋妹的劝说，周惠英决定和爱人瑞、哥哥周虹一道去垦荒。卢凤阳也受到了教育，认识到了自己的错误。。
